Say goodbye to Excessive sweating: Is Neurotoxin treatment effective?

Excessive sweating also known as hyperhidrosis can cause discomfort and embarrassment for individuals. In this article we will explore the Neurotoxin solution that offers hope to those dealing with this condition. Discover how Neurotoxin is making a difference in the lives of people with hyperhidrosis by addressing sweating.

What is Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating that goes beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation.

How does Neurotoxin work for Hyperhidrosis?

Neurotoxin helps with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) by blocking the nerve signals for activating sweat glands. This temporary interruption of the nerve signals reduces sweating. It can provide relief for several months before further treatments are required, Neurotoxin is commonly used to treat areas such as underarms, palms, and soles of the feet.

How long does Neurotoxin for treating Hyperhidrosis last?

Typically, Neurotoxin provides relief for hyperhidrosis for six to twelve months. Its benefits and effects gradually diminish over time. To maintain the reduction in sweating additional treatments are necessary.

Is Neurotoxin the recommended treatment option for managing Hyperhidrosis?

Indeed, many healthcare professionals highly recommend Neurotoxin as a treatment option for managing Hyperhidrosis. It has demonstrated effectiveness in controlling sweating across areas of the body however, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider to determine its suitability for your case.

Health Tips for Keeping the Fat Off After Surgery

Beautiful woman on exercise bike in her private gym

You may have undergone weight loss surgery to take off those stubborn last few pounds after a significant weight loss (for example, liposuction or cellulaze.) Or, you may have had a surgery geared towards major weight loss, such as bariatric surgery (i.e. lap band surgery.) In either case, after your surgery you will naturally be concerned about maintaining your new physique by keeping the fat off. Here are our best tips for doing so.For more information about receiving cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles, contact Dr. Simon Ourian and the experts at Epione Beverly Hills.

Eat with Health in Mind

Try out new, healthier foods one at a time to see if they are to your liking or if you can adjust to eating them.1. Avoid Consuming a Lot of Sugar and FatTry to avoid pre-packaged and processed foods as much as possible. If you do eat these products, read labels and buy only the ones that have a protein to calorie ratio of 10:1 or better. Cut out fried food, candy, and all sweetened dairy products such as ice cream and flavored yogurts. Go for the sugar-free versions.2. Eat a High Protein, Low Fat DietEmphasize fish, dairy, meat, beans, and other legumes. You can also focus your meals around lean chicken, lean turkey, or tofu.3. Eat Plenty of Fresh Fruits and VegetablesFruit makes a great snack. During meals, finish your protein first, then go for the veggies. The best options include potatoes, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, bananas, and avocados.4. Eat Smaller MealsObviously, consuming fewer calories will help keep your weight down. But also, your body burns calories more efficiently if they are consumed in smaller portions. With this in mind, plan about 5 small meals evenly spaced throughout the day, and avoid snacking as much as you can. Do not eat after 8pm. Pay attention to how your body feels – it may take 15-20 minutes after you’re finished eating to feel “full.”5. Drink WaterFirst, choosing to drink water over all other caloric and sugary drinks helps you keep weight off. Moreover, you need to drink a lot of water (aim for at least 64oz. per day) to help your body flush out all the waste products and toxins that present themselves after weight loss. Water also keeps your stomach feeling full, which helps you not to snack and stick to your regular, 5-meal schedule.

Stay Physically and Mentally Active

Your surgeon will probably recommend that you start moving 48 hours after your surgery. But this does not mean you can sign up for an aerobics class! You must take it easy for the first three weeks, listening to your body’s signals about when you’ve had enough for the day and need to rest.1. Commit to an Exercise ProgramAfter three weeks have passed, try to exercise about four days a week for 30 minutes at a time. Exercise not only sends endorphins to your brain, making you feel better, but it also burns fat and builds lean muscle, maintaining the sleek results of your surgery. If you’re not in the mood for a full workout, walking outdoors can be a gentler way to boost your mood and burn some calories at the same time.2. Weigh Yourself WeeklyKeeping tabs on your numerical weight helps boost motivation. If you are staying on track, it increases satisfaction with the good job you are doing. If you notice that the numbers are creeping up, you can correct yourself quickly and refocus on cooking healthy meals or rededicating yourself to your exercise routine.3. Occupy Your MindFind activities besides eating that make you happy, and continuously add to that list. Paint, draw, listen to your favorite music, take up an instrument, or start attending a weekly game night. Satisfy your mind, not your stomach.

Get Support

1. See a NutritionistA nutritionist or dietician can help you create a personalized healthy diet plan that is doctor approved.2. See a PsychologistOn top of the physical stress, you are going through a lot of mental stress after your surgery and adjusting to your new lifestyle. You can talk to a psychologist about any issues that are impeding your progress, and she can give you stress relief tips, so you don’t feel the urge to stress-eat.3. Explain Your New Lifestyle to Friends and Loved OnesIf your social life revolves around food, you will need to be the one who comes up with innovative ideas for gatherings. You may find that you need to see people with unhealthy habits less often. Your new lifestyle is an adjustment for the people in your life as well. They may even become jealous of the improvements you have made. Be prepared to discuss what you are doing with the people you care about.

The Benefits of Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancements in Beverly Hills have become more and more popular in recent years. Full lips help to promote a youthful appearance, and considering the procedure is safe and relatively simple, patients are very happy with their results. There are a few different types of lip enhancement procedures, including Fat Transfer, Collagen, Dermalogen, Hyaluronic Acid and Alloderm. A new type of procedure, Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment, offers perhaps the most exciting benefits yet. With its modernized technology, this procedure offers benefits that other procedures do not.

The Benefits

Here’s a few great things that happen when you get your lips enhanced using the Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment:• Fuller lips: If you have suffered from thin lips for most of your life, then you are probably a great candidate for a lip enhancement in Beverly Hills. With a lip enhancement, your doctor will be able to add more volume to your lips and sculpt to add a fuller contour. Most clients fall in love with the results.• Corrective results: If you think your lips look uneven or crooked, a lip enhancement in Beverly Hills can help correct this. Dr. Ourian will be able to reshape your pout, making your lips look more even and voluminous.• Faster: With modern advances in lip enhancement procedures, the whole process has become faster than before. Specifically, the Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment is faster than surgical procedures. Prep time, the actual length of the procedure and after-care are all relatively short.• Smoother texture: With the Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment, your doctor will be able to smooth fine lines and wrinkles out from your lips – a key benefit offered by this procedure. Most people do not realize what a difference it makes in adding to a youthful appearance.• Less expensive: Modern advances have also made this procedure less expensive than before. The laser procedure is cheaper than other lip enhancement options.• Longer lasting results: When it comes to lip enhancement procedures, the Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment will most likely lead to longer lasting results.

The Procedure

After seeing all these benefits from a Laser Lip Enhancement Treatment, you may be wondering what happens in the treatment. Here is how your doctor will create your perfect lip shape and volume:

1. Plumping

First your doctor will inject a filler to plump up your lips. Your doctor will determine how much is necessary depending on how big you want to make your lips. The needle that is used is very thin, so only local anesthesia is needed. Most people experience little to no pain.

2. Refining

The plumping process might be repeated two to three times by your doctor if necessary. Again, this depends on how voluminous you want to make your lips.

3. Laser Treatment

In this final step, the lips are resurfaced using a laser. The laser removes fine lines to leave the texture of the lips smooth, soft and supple. While you may think that this step is unnecessary or not needed, you will be surprised at the difference the laser makes on the final results. When the laser smooths out the overall texture of the lips, it leads to the rejuvenated lines you’ve been waiting for. In addition, if the thought of using a laser scares you or makes you pause before getting the treatment, know that the laser beam penetrates to a precise, controlled depth, which makes the procedure safe and very predictable.Epione is located in the heart of Beverly Hills, CA and is a state of the art, comprehensive laser and aesthetic surgery center. Liposuction surgery - Shaping your body to perfection

Liposuction surgery, also called lipoplasty or liposculpture, is a surgical procedure during which, small fat areas in your body are being removed. These areas of fat are usually found on your neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips and thighs, and cannot be removed with exercises or a diet and therefore are surgically treated.Liposuction surgery is not only done for aesthetic reasons. It can also help you maintain a healthy body without fat. However, there is a certain limit when it comes to the amount of fat one can safely remove from an area. Therefore it isn't possible to reduce a desired area of your body as much as you might have planned. After the liposuction surgery your body won't make replacement fat so if you continue to exercise and maintain a healthy life you will have a good chance to keep your current body shape. Acting reckless towards your body and gaining weight again may cause the fat cells that remained to enlarge and you will be back to your starting point. Before engaging in a liposuction surgery, you will have enough time to discuss the details of your operation with a highly qualified professional surgeon. You will be asked about your hopes and expectations when it comes to the liposuction surgery and you will be explained what result you can realistically achieve and expect from your operation. For any professional aesthetic surgeon it is very important to make his patient aware of the operation, its purpose and result. He will also guide you through the entire preparation for a liposuction surgery. He will explain you about its course and needed aftercare and what you should avoid before, during and after your operation, for example, smoking.Liposuction is often done on an out-patient basis and you are free to go home afterwards. Only in cases where there are larger areas that need to be treated surgically a patient is asked to stay overnight.Fasting will also be an important aspect of your preparation for liposuction surgery. Your doctor will ask you to avoid eating, chewing or drinking anything for a certain period of time before the actual operation takes place. Fasting is needed to be sure that a person undergoing general anesthesia is not exposed to any risk or danger. If you are having a small area of your lower body treated then the local anesthesia could be an option. With the use of local anesthesia the area treated will become numb while you remain awake. Before the liposuction surgery your doctor will take photographs of the area that will be treated so you would be able to compare the results of liposuction after the actual operation. If being satisfied with your appearance and staying healthy are your goals, then liposuction surgery is the right thing for you. Removing the excessive amounts of fat, that can only put your health at risk, is a wise thing to do. Not to mention the satisfaction you will surely feel when you see the photographs of ‘before’ and ‘after’. Your new sexy body will make you both proud and healthy.

Radiesse reviews

Reviews

actual patient reviews
Radiesse reviews at RealSelf.com appear to be incredibly balanced. For example, just by going to the main page, a web surfer already gets a good snapshot of the pros and cons of trying Radiesse, which, unlike Restylane or Juvéderm, does not contain hyaluronic acid. The two are basically a class of fillers that help add volume to parts of the face that have been superficially hollowed by age or in some cases, an accident or a congenital deformity. On the other hand, Radiesse is considered a bio-stimulatory filler like Sculptra.

As such, Radiesse adds volume to the hollow areas directly and this, in turn, stimulates even more collagen production, says Dr. Emily Altman, a Short Hills Dermatological Surgeon. Like other fillers, Radiesse works best on the nasolabial folds. For anyone in the preliminary stage of discovering the wonders of modern dermatology, the website is an excellent destination.

Openness is a Virtue

One gets the feeling that cosmetic physicians and plastic surgeons alike are standing by and ready to help. These experts who come from all over the world seem quick to respond to questions posted, as evidenced by their extensive commentaries on reviews submitted. This gives visitors that strong community feeling, which is so important for someone who is researching a subject like Radiesse.

Doctor Ratings Can Be Very Helpful

The high-level of information on the site can make a lasting impression on a new visitor. The Q&A is always around to provide just enough information on the subject. More importantly, the data are presented objectively.

Information is Provided With Warning to Beg to Differ

The bottom line is, Radiesse is not for everybody. The cost can be prohibitive for people who want to look great but also happen to be on a budget. The average cost is $950 for a first-time appointment.

For those who can afford the treatment, however, doing a lot of research prior to embarking on the procedure is the best course of action. People have to bear in mind that the RealSelf site is just for starters. It should never be treated as a definitive source of information on the subject. Footnotes at the bottom of the home page say it succinctly.

Very Useful Overall Satisfaction Rating

Still, this does not detract from the objective quality of personal impressions presented on the website. In the forum, for example, anyone is free to post anything relevant to the subject. One poster even tries to dissuade everybody from trying Radiesse after her tragic experience. The overall rating found on the top left of the home page presents the findings in a nutshell: As of November 17, 2012, 59% of reviewers are in favor of the procedure; the votes have been tallied from 484 reviews.

An Objectivity That Can't Be Found Anywhere Else

In summary, RealSelf is an incredible source of first-hand information regarding trying out a dermatological procedure known as Radiesse. It will save a lot of time, money and effort to visit the site first, as opposed to going on the phone for a consultation or an actual meeting with a cosmetic physician who is likely to charge for the service. The coverage is deep with many people showing contagious enthusiasm to reveal their personal experience. Still, all these features are just one part of the journey. As always, it makes perfect sense to take in everything with a grain of salt.

Epione Beverly Hills Helps Kick Off 2010 Teen Choice Awards’ Festivities with KIIS FM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – To help kick off this year’s Teen Choice Awards, Epione Beverly Hills participated in the 2010 Teen Choice Gifting Suite, hosted by KIIS-FM, Los Angeles’ premiere hit music station. The event was held on Friday, August 6 at the W Hotel in Westwood and welcomed some of Hollywood’s hottest tween and teen stars for an afternoon of mixing, mingling and swag grabbing.Among the list of guests at the star-studded gifting suite event included Bronson Pelletier, Charlie Bewley, Nikki Blonsky, Rico Rodriguez, Raini Rodriguez, Joey King, Shar Jackson, Bobby Brown, Tenley Molzahn, Quinton Aaron, and Alex Meraz. Meraz rose to fame in the role of Paul in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” a 2010 Teen Choice Awards winner. He received a signature spray tan courtesy of Epione Beverly Hills to help him get camera-ready for his big night.

Dr. Simon Ourian Mixes and Mingles with the Next Generation of Hollywood Stars; Twilight’s Alex Meraz of ‘New Moon,’ ‘Eclipse’ and ‘The Twilight Saga’ Gets a Spray Tan from Beverly Hills’ Finest

“It was such a pleasure for my staff to participate in this year’s 2010 Teen Choice Gifting Suite, and meet so many of the industry’s rising stars and trendsetters,” said Dr. Simon Ourian, medical director. “It’s often during the teen years that we begin paying close attention to our appearance, discovering what we like and dislike about our bodies, learning how to care for our skin and determining what it means to look and feel our best. Hollywood’s tweens, teens and young adults greatly influence the rest of the country’s young people while they’re going through that phase, so I’m happy that I can say I met a lot of great role models at the event.”Epione Beverly Hills, a leading, state-of-the-art laser and aesthetic medicine center, regularly caters to the needs of men and women seeking to enhance their appearances and achieve a ‘picture perfect’ or red-carpet-ready appearance. The center specializes in a wide range of treatments for the face, skin, hair, breasts and full body including acne scar removal, laser hair removal, tattoo removal, breast reductions, and breast augmentation surgery. When asked what advice he would give to tweens and teens seeking guidance on ways to look and feel their best, Dr. Ourian expressed the importance of inner beauty, self-esteem, confidence and making health and wellness a priority.“When young people ask me for tips on how they can look their best, I always tell them that the first step is to be proud and confident in who they are, and to diligently maintain what they’ve already been blessed with,” said Dr. Ourian. “Eat well, take great care of your skin and body and commit to a healthy lifestyle and healthy choices. Those are some of the most important things you can do.”Presented annually by Fox, the Teen Choice Awards honor the year’s biggest achievements in music, movies, sports, television, fashion and more. The 2010 awards aired on August 9, marking the 12th year of the televised presentation.

Stem Cells Show Potential Anti-Aging Treatment

Endless possibilities

It may sound like something from the annals of Ray Bradbury fiction, but frozen stem cell treatment for cosmetic enhancement is very real. In fact, there are some researchers who claim that stem cell treatment can reduce the appearance of aging and improve skin quality. Stem cells can be gathered from a patient's adipose tissue and applied to another area of the body. There are even some scientists who cryogenically store the cells for preservation and future application.

Current Stem Cell Research

Scientists are pioneering of a fat-grafting technique that aims to slow or reverse aging signs and restore vibrant skin. They remove some fatty tissue from one part of the body and graft it into another, stimulating a change in tissue composition and appearance. They believe that the loss of subcutaneous volume results in many of the hallmarks of aging.

Marked Improvement in Skin Quality Seen

While performing these treatments they observed marked improvement in patient skin quality over time. This led to the idea that application of one's own adult stem cells could refresh skin appearance. The cells used in this treatment are mature stem cells, not to be confused with controversial cells from the embryo. Adult stem cells can be found in the body's fat tissue. In the past 15 years some studies began to uncover what physicians refer to as amazing qualities of stem cell treatment in cosmetics. These ideas led to marketing campaigns based around stem cell facial creams collected from animals and plants.

Using One’s Own Stem Cells

A microbiologist who works to develop stem cell beauty products, questioned the idea of using foreign stem cells to enhance appearance. "Why would I want to use the stem cells of another species?" He supports the idea that one's own stem cells are the surest way to improve tissue. Personal stem cells contain the same DNA and are easily recognized and integrated into the same body they originated from.

Cells Help Regenerate Old Tissue

The use of stem cells for beauty and cosmetics is a new, emerging idea. It is vital to amply research any medical treatment that one is seeking, and to consult professionals regarding such treatments. The researchers who support stem cell treatment for beauty purposes have said that these cells can help regenerate old tissue, resulting in enhanced complexion. There treatments are similar to others such as mesotherapy, which uses a series of injections under the skin to break up cellulite bands. Other treatments such as breast augmentation can use fatty tissues gathered from one part of the body where it is abundant and inserted into breasts to enhance them. There are a number of procedures that take adipose tissue from one area and apply it to another. Any time this happens and adult stem cells are in the applied tissue; the stem cells may yield improvement in skin appearance.

Cosmetic Surgery Treatments in California

If you are living in California you are living in the geographic area of the world that has more cosmetic surgeons than anywhere else. In a society that is ever more youth obsessed and physical appearance conscious, who would not want to take advantage of that fact? Rather than traveling abroad for a bargain treatment and potentially end up with inferior results and complications, why not consider the long term cost and simply opt for cosmetic surgery treatments in California? There is a wealth of information available online concerning cosmetic surgery treatments in California, and you should definitely take advantage of this resource. It is important that you make sure that you are getting your information off of a reputable site, and the internet is no replacement for speaking to an actual doctor, but this is a good place to start. The advantage of seeking cosmetic surgery treatments in California, is that you can take advantage of the established network of cosmetic surgeons to determine which doctors are reputable and experienced in which areas of cosmetic surgery, and which are unproven. This will help you to make sure you find the doctor that is right for you regardless of your condition. By seeking cosmetic surgery treatments in California you will have access to California's general medical establishment in the rare occurrence that a serious complication should actually arise. If something should go wrong, you want to make certain that you are in a place that will be able to take care of you. When so many people travel from far and wide, often from other countries simply to get cosmetic surgery treatments in California, why would you want to go anywhere else. Reputable providers of cosmetic surgery treatments in California like Epione of Beverly Hills are easily within your reach, and the financing plans that most cosmetic surgeons offer put them within your reach financially as well, no matter what the cost of the procedure you are considering or the size of your budget. Regardless of the sort of treatment you are pursuing, whether is minor or intensive, a surgery, or non-surgical procedure, the most important thing you can do is educate as thoroughly as possible, both before you meet with your doctor, and when you are speaking with a doctor. Educating yourself before you meet a physician will ensure that you know the correct questions to ask when you do see a doctor so that you can be sure to get only the most appropriate cosmetic treatment for your condition.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — For many years, liposuction has been a popular choice for women who want to target problem areas and achieve a slimmer, smoother and firmer appearance. However, the procedure is not without its drawbacks, posing health dangers to some and short-lived results for others. To combat many of the ‘cons’ of liposuction, Epione Medical Corporation, a state-of-the-art aesthetic surgery center, now offers OptiLipo, a revolutionary alternative to liposuction. The procedure may successfully flush fat, block the ability to store fat and achieve long-lasting results, among other benefits.“At Epione, we offer the latest and most progressive technology and aesthetic procedures in order to help out clients achieve the results they want, and look and feel better than ever before,” said Dr. Simon Ourian, medical director. “OptiLipo has quickly become the premier choice for women wanting to get rid of excess fat and cellulite without undergoing anesthesia or having to worry about future weight gain.”

Revolutionary OptiLipo Treatment Flushes Fat, Fights Cellulite and Post-Treatment Weight Gain and Achieves a Smoother, Firmer Skin Surface

During the OptiLipo procedure, problem areas are injected with microscopic quantities of natural plant extracts, homeopathic, pharmaceutical agents and vitamins. The procedure targets fat reduction in desired areas, flushes the fat out and over the course of several sessions, blocks the body’s ability to store fat in those areas, while simultaneously stimulating the body’s ability to burn fat.OptiLipo offers a number of benefits that liposuction does not:

  1. OptiLipo is non-surgical procedure that does not require anesthesia, posing far less health dangers than liposuction.
  2. OptiLipo achieves a smoother skin surface, and does not enhance preexisting cellulite, which often occurs with liposuction.
  3. No extensive medical evaluations or elaborate laboratory data is required prior to undergoing the OptiLipo procedure.

On average, based on the patient’s condition, results can be seen in two to three sessions. Some patients will see immediate results. Treatments are minimally invasive and recovery is immediate. In addition to electing for OptiLipo as an alternative to liposuction, the treatment may also effective for aging skin, redundant or sagging skin, hand rejuvenation and neck rejuvenation.“OptiLipo is one of the most popular procedures for women who want to reverse the signs of aging, regain a more youthful appearance and look fantastic in their clothes and swimwear,” said Dr. Ourian. “Schedule a consultation and let’s discuss how OptiLipo can help you get amazing results.”For more information about OptiLipo, or other non-surgical aesthetic treatments offered by Epione Medical Corporation, please call 310.598.2345.

Should Your Teen Should Get Plastic Surgery?

Lisa Kudrow and Tori Spelling had nose jobs at 16. 17 year old Britney Spears, with mom’s permission, got breast implants. When teens see celebrity peers getting plastic surgery, they may decide that their own looks need improving. Some, like Ashley Tisdale and Soleil Moon Frye, may need surgery for medical reasons, but most teen surgery is cosmetic, not corrective in nature.Teens only make up 2 percent of cosmetic surgery patients in the U.S., but according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number is getting larger. In 2008, 81,885 invasive surgeries were done on teens, ages 13–19, while 219,136 received minimally invasive treatment. Many people think that the average teen requesting this is probably spoiled, rich and overly obsessed with image, but not all fall into that category. The reasons for plastic surgery can vary depending on the circumstances.

Reasons to Avoid the Knife

Teens, being who they are, desire plastic surgery in order to fit in with their friends. They may feel that having bigger breasts or a more defined chin may finally give them the popularity they have always dreamed of. Of course, this is not always the case, and when it fails to change their social lives, they can be devastated.Unfortunately, there are other surgeons who are perfectly willing to do surgery on a teen without screening them first. Parents, too, are occasionally to blame; they may want “the perfect child” and insist that the surgery be done.Because of this, a good surgeon will carefully interview a candidate to make sure they are emotionally stable enough to handle the surgery. The surgeon must also be sure the teen’s expectations are realistic and their motives are correct. Teens with body dysmorphic disorder may not be good candidates; these patients will focus on a specific flaw or other defect (real or imagined), and convince themselves that surgery is the only way to treat it. This condition is best handled by a psychologist or other mental health care professional.

Procedures to Skip

There are a number of procedures that teenagers should avoid. Breast enhancement, in particular with saline implants, is one. This is because the body may not yet be done developing, and the general rule is that the patient must be at least 18. There are a few exceptions, such as birth defects, trauma or diseases that may require breast reconstruction. Silicone can be used for reconstruction purposes by women of all ages, but is limited to 22 and older for enhancement.Since teens often lose baby fat with age, liposuction is not recommended. For teens that have a problem losing weight with just diet and exercise alone, however, it can be used for spot reduction purposes. It should not be used to treat obesity as a whole and is most definitely not a substitute for diet and exercise.

Procedures to Consider

Rhinoplasty can be a suitable procedure for certain candidates. Broken or deformed noses can be fixed by this procedure. Breast reductions are also popular; in Soleil Moon Frye’s case, her large breasts were causing her back and shoulder pain, as well as breathing problems. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels can help teens with severe acne and skin irregularities, and laser hair removal can help those with excessive hair.

Five Important Questions to Ask When Considering Surgery for Your Child

  1. Who truly wants the surgery? The teenager must be the one who desires it most; after all, they are the ones who must live with the results. Parents, peers and significant others can offer advice, but they must not pressure the patient into making a decision.
  2. Is your child emotionally and mentally mature? A good surgeon will want to be sure the patient understands the process and what will take place before, during and after surgery.
  3. How well does your child handle pain and follow directions? The recovery process can be long, painful and draining. As a parent, you can only do so much; your child must be able to handle the rest on their own.
  4. Does the child have a realistic outlook on the results? Make sure your child knows that their lives will not radically change after undergoing surgery.
  5. Is your child physically mature? Depending on the surgery, this could play a huge role. Breast reductions can be done on patients as young as 15, while other surgeries may have to wait until the child is older.

Forever Young: Plastic Surgery for the Ages

Cosmetic dermatology is wonderful at improving facial and/or bodily features, but it is not permanent. Over time, you may need further treatments due to the effects of aging. So how can maintenance and treatment regimens help keep you looking as young as possible? The area(s) treated by cosmetic dermatology will still age right along with the rest of the skin. Because of this, it can be hard to determine exactly how long the results a treatment will last.

Skin and Its Construction

The skin is made up of three layers: the epidermis (surface), the dermis (below the skin) and the subcutaneous tissue layer (below the dermis). The epidermis is home to skin cells, amino acid chains, and pigment. The top of the dermis is made up of dead skin cells. Exfoliation gets rid of these dead cells, and improves its appearance. The dermis also has other parts to it, like oil, blood vessels, and hair follicles. The hypodermis has a very similar construction to the dermis, except that it contains fat as well. Connective tissue in both is supported by collagen fibers, which help support the skin in turn. Since collagen decreases as we get older, so does the elasticity of our skin. This can lead to thinning and sagging of the skin.

How Treated Areas Respond to Aging

Certain types of treatments can become more visible as we age. Breast implants are an example of this. If an untreated area has less collagen than a treated area, there may be more sagging in the untreated region. Remember, the treated parts of your skin or body may look better, but it will age just like the rest.

Losing Volume and Bone Mass

Facial bones lose their density over time, which may make the bone structure shift or otherwise change shape. The loss of collagen also plays a role. As a result, treatments like facelifts can result in distorted features in some people as they get older.

Laugh Lines, Crow’s Feet and Facial Movement

Due to the fact that we constantly move our faces throughout our lifetimes, we are bound to create wrinkles and other lines. This applies even after plastic surgery. Laughing, smiling, and frowning are still part of our non verbal expression as human beings, and this will affect the results of our treatment in the long term.

Treatment Plans

There are a number of ways to treat these changes in our appearance as time passes. Non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures may require ongoing visits. For instance, Botox lasts for three to six months. Restylane may last for six months or longer, while laser treatments may last up to five years or longer. In the best of all possible situations, plastic surgery results will last for ten years or more. Neck lifts can last for five, while eyelid surgery lasts for ten as well. Mini or micro procedures will only last five years. Implantable devices can vary; for instance, breast implants have up to a 30 percent reoperation rate due to aging of the breast or the patient’s desire for larger ones.

Things to Keep In Mind

There are a few things you will want to consider as you plan your treatments and comprehensive treatment plan. These are:

  • Your doctor’s qualifications: How often has he performed this treatment?
  • How you will look in the future: Will this treatment affect your facial expression and movement?

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes: Emotional Ups and Downs After Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery will not only affect your body, but it can also affect your mind, and this may not necessarily be a positive thing. Anticipation of the surgery, while exciting, can also be draining and stressful. If you are used to seeing your particular flaw every day, as much as you may not have liked it, its disappearance after plastic surgery may leave you disappointed and sad. In addition, family members may notice that the flaw is gone, and their hesitation to approve of your decision to remove it may make you uncomfortable. Lastly, the bruising and swelling, as well as overall pain and discomfort, may add to your depression.Depression after surgery is nothing new. In fact, the symptoms are similar to post partum depression. Disapproval from others, whether verbal or non-verbal, can make you feel angry and alone. Long stares from strangers can do the same. By the same token, the results can feel positive as opposed to negative. Those who are prone to depression and anxiety, as well as personality disorders, are more likely to experience postoperative depression. Many plastic surgeons provide pre- and postoperative counseling to help their patients make the transition, no matter how minor the surgery.

Confidence in Oneself

While plastic surgery can help improve self esteem, you must have a positive image of yourself before you ever undergo a procedure. Ideal candidates do not believe their lives will change completely for the better after surgery; they think positively about themselves in general, and see plastic surgery as a way to eliminate a flaw or problem area.

Great Expectations

Having realistic expectations for your plastic surgery experience is crucial to having a positive mindset later. Remember, the point of plastic surgery is to improve a specific area of your body. It will not necessarily change your life, although this is often a pleasant side effect. In a study done in 2005, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons noted that 75 percent of the respondents stated that they chose the procedure for an improvement in appearance and a more active lifestyle. The same percentage felt they had many more emotional and psychological rewards after the procedure. 45 percent also noted that they felt more attractive, and felt that they were benefited by it.

Important Things To Know

Make sure you discuss what your expectations are with your doctor. This will help you and your doctor synthesize your information, and keep you from developing unrealistic ideas about your surgery. Your doctor will also be able to discuss different procedures with you that may give you the results you want. It is important to distinguish between liposuction and a tummy tuck, and your doctor can help you make that kind of clarification. This kind of communication can help you figure out exactly what type of surgery you need to get your desired look.In addition, you should go over your medical information with your doctor. Cosmetic surgery can be as small as cutting off a skin tag or as major as a facelift; it is in your best interest to give your doctor as much information as you can so he can do the best job possible. In addition, your doctor may need to know some important information that you may not think is important. Do you have sleep apnea? Are you a heavy bleeder? Do you have a family history of circulation problems? Answering these questions may not mean you are disqualified from surgery, but your honest responses could very well keep you alive on the operating table.Patients who may be subject to great emotional changes will be screened by the plastic surgeons during their first consultation. Again, if you show signs of this, you may still be able to get surgery, but you may also be given a few precautionary measures to keep you safe. For those who are a high risk, the surgeon may recommend counseling before agreeing to do surgery. These would include:

  • Patients going through divorce or other severe psychological stress may not be ready for surgery at that time,
  • Patients with a desire to look "perfect" may also not be ready.
  • Patients with mental issues will need to have their psychologist and their surgeon working as a team in order to qualify. This will not only consist of an evaluation of the patient's mental stability, but any medications taken before or after the surgery.

These precautions may seem time consuming and pointless, but as the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." It is better for the doctor to be fully prepared going into surgery than to have him attempt to rectify a potentially deadly situation.

Rhinoplasty – Functional and Beautiful Noses

If you’ve ever had a problem with the shape of your nose, or had trouble breathing, rhinoplasty might be the solution to your problem. A rhinoplasty is simply a surgical alteration of your nose. Just about anything can be changed: the width of your nostrils, the shape of your nasal tip, and any irregularities in your nose shape. The bump in the middle of the bridge of your nose can be eliminated with a minor rhinoplasty.Rhinoplasty can also rid a patient of breathing problems, like ones that derive from a deviated septum. The septum is the wall in the nose that divides the nostrils. When it deviates, it can cause issues with breathing through the nose. Birth defects like cleft palates may require a rhinoplasty. Injuries such as a broken nose may also create breathing issues that require a surgical solution.

Getting Ready for Rhinoplasty

You may not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. Try to quit smoking before you go in as well. One of the main reasons for this is because smoking can affect blood flow in the body. This, in turn, can affect the way your body heals. Drinking alcohol the week before surgery can have the same effect.Go over your medication with your doctor; he may ask you to stop taking certain prescriptions before surgery. NSAIDs, or Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs, are an example. Other substances that may be contraindicated are Vitamin E, Omega 3 fatty acids and green tea. All of these can raise the possibility of increased bleeding. Remember, you must tell your doctor about all of the drugs and supplements you are taking, and never stop taking any medication without discussing it with your doctor first.

Risks of Rhinoplasty

  • Nasal obstruction
  • Touch ups
  • Anesthesia problems
  • Perforation of the septum (a small hole, which causes a whistling sound when talking or singing)
  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Death

Different Versions of Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty is when the incisions are made in the thin strip of skin that separates the nostrils, called the columella. The columella and the soft tissue are lifted off the rest of the nose to allow the surgeon to see more clearly. This is done for major surgery.Closed Rhinoplasty surgery is has incisions made in the nose. The skin is separated from the bone and cartilage. The latter then can be reshaped or changed in whatever way is needed. Closed rhinoplasty is done for minor reshaping.Secondary Rhinoplasty, aka revision rhinoplasty, fixes problems from a previous nose surgery. Some may be minor, but many of them are major issues. This makes a secondary rhinoplasty harder to do. This type of surgery can also be done as open or closed.Filler Rhinoplasty uses injectable fillers to even out irregularities. Fillers can fill in depressions or make a bump less noticeable. This is the only solution that is not permanent.

How Do I Get a Rhinoplasty?

The first step is to see a doctor who specializes in this type of surgery. Your surgeon will take pictures of your nose at various angles. Your surgeon will also make sure that your expectations are realistic.Feel free to bring in photos of noses that you find attractive. This will help your surgeon establish what you are looking for, and give them an opportunity to show you pictures of people who have similar noses to yours, as well as noses that are similar to what you want. For the sake of balance, you may also want to consider chin augmentation as well.

The Procedure Itself

Rhinoplasty is considered an outpatient procedure. It will take place in a hospital or surgical room. The length of time needed will depend on the type of rhinoplasty chosen. A primary version could take up to three hours, while a filler procedure can take 15 minutes or so.Your surgeon will use local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia for a primary rhinoplasty. Since a secondary rhinoplasty is more complicated, general anesthesia is often best. For a filler rhinoplasty, a local anesthetic is all that is needed. The surgeon will then perform an open or closed rhinoplasty, and reshape the nose accordingly. The incisions are then closed and the healing begins.

So When Do I See Results?

Results will not be visible right away. It could take up to a year to see the full effects. Right after surgery, your nose will be packed with gauze to reduce bleeding and swelling. Pain medicine will help with the discomfort, and you should be able to control it without medicine within two days. Nausea is also a common side effect of this surgery. The first few days may involve some bleeding. Cold compresses and elevation of the head can help. After the first three days, you may be asked back so the surgeon can remove your stitches. For the first week, avoid any trauma to the nose, which includes blowing it. Decongestants will help. After this, the cast will be removed, along with the gauze and any other dressings. Splints may be placed around and inside your nose to help it keep its shape. The swelling will be mostly gone within a month. Within a year, all of it will be gone. After a year, you may then consider a secondary rhinoplasty.THE PURPOSE OF THIS ARTICLE IS TO ENHANCE, NOT REPLACE THE DISCUSSION AND CONSULTATION WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION BASED UPON THE RISKS, BENEFITS, AND ALTERNATIVES FOR YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS AND DESIRES. The Renaissance of Cosmetic Surgery

The recession has made it difficult for people to have cosmetic surgery the way they used to. But as the economy recovers, so has the number of procedures performed. The recession has had a notable impact on every business, including cosmetic surgery. However, recent improvements have led to an upswing in the physical enhancement department. Many women 50 and below have not forsaken their beauty treatments, regardless of their financial situation.Out of 1,000 women polled, 63 percent (ages 18–34) and 73 percent (ages 35–49) had a positive impression on procedures that fought the aging process. And according to E-Poll Market Research, out of the 18 to 34 year olds, 44 percent stated that Botox would be a routine procedure. Botox is given by injection to remove wrinkles, crows feet, laugh and frown lines. 70 percent of these women also stated that while the bulk of cosmetic surgery patients are women, it is perfectly acceptable for a man to have work done as well.Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, states that "Interest in cosmetic procedures is getting very strong again." He goes on to say, "This may be a sign that our economy is on an upswing."The procedures that have drawn the most attention have been the ones that are inexpensive, require minimal surgery, and have a very short recovery time. Age often determines the popularity of a particular treatment, but the most common ones are as follows.Botox: This noninvasive treatment is the most popular choice for patients over the age of 30. It is composed of very small amounts of the toxin Chlostridium botulinum, which freezes nerve impulses. This paralyzes the muscles in the area, which gives the face a much smoother look. Botox is used in the face and neck to eliminate wrinkles, lines and creases.Chemical peels: The skin's outer layer can be damaged by sun, wind or ordinary aging. And as time passes, skin can develop scars, wrinkles and uneven pigment. Chemical peels take care of this problem by using phenol, trichloroacetic acid or alpha hydroxy acids to remove the layer of injured skin. The chemical is applied to the skin then removed after a specified amount of time. Side effects may include redness and irritation, but these typically last for a short period of time. Aftercare instructions are provided by the doctor. If the instructions are followed properly, the patient is left with a smoother, more even appearance.Laser skin resurfacing and Coolaser treatment: This procedure uses a laser to treat damaged skin in order to allow healthy skin to grow in its place. A numbing solution is applied to the face first. With the Coolaser treatment, the skin is cooled before the procedure takes place. Only one millionth of an inch of skin is treated at a time, which allows the doctor to control how much treatment is needed and how deeply the skin is treated. The heat from the laser stimulates the skin to produce collagen, which results in smoother, tighter skin. Side effects from this treatment can include redness and irritation as well patient's skin is improved in appearance, and has had one of the greatest increases in use since 2005 among both sexes.Hyaluronic acid: This injectable filler is the base chemical in Restylane and Juvederm. It gets rid of wrinkles, certain types of skin folds, and other lines on the face. It can also be used to plump up thin lips and hollows under the eyes and in the cheeks. Side effects can include soreness and swelling at the site. Depending on the product chosen, the results can last from six to eighteen months.Liposuction: Liposuction is an invasive procedure, but it is the number one cosmetic surgery treatment chosen for people between 20 and 59. Liposuction removes fat deposits from the body, slimming and reshaping it in the process. The procedure has a much longer recovery time than any of the others listed here, and the side effects are more prominent (temporary numbness and bruising, among others) but the results can be quite impressive.

OptiLipo – The New Liposuction?

So you've worked really hard to lose weight. You've dieted, you've exercised, and you've done your best to avoid food cravings and other temptations. Despite your efforts, those stubborn love handles and double chin refuse to go away. If this sounds like you, it may be time to consider mesotherapy as a treatment.OptiLipo is a revolutionary treatment that melts fat away in specific areas using a chemical that appears in bile acids (found in the human body) and cell membranes. Injections are given every two weeks, with the number of injections varying depending on the amount of fat in the area. OptiLipo works particularly well with cellulite, dissolving and smoothing out the affected area. Due to the body's natural healing response, an additional benefit of mesotherapy is skin tightening."One reason that I'm pleased to offer mesotherapy," says Doctor Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, "is that we can use it to treat cellulite directly. Liposuction, on the other hand, does not treat cellulite and often ends up enhancing preexisting cellulite, making the cellulite more prominent. With mesotherapy the result is often a smoother skin surface.""What mesotherapy can do over the course of several sessions," continues Doctor Ourian, "is block the body's ability to store fat and stimulate its ability to burn it. We can target specific areas of fat and treat that area directly by injecting a blend of medications, vitamins and supplements."The optimal results of cellulite removal by mesotherapy are seen three weeks after the last treatment. Patients can see visible firming and smoothing of the skin, including:

  • Improved skin texture
  • Improved skin elasticity
  • Increased tone and firmness
  • Reduced circumference and a more refined figure

It is important to note that mesotherapy, as well as other cosmetic weight loss procedures, such as liposuction, are not recommended substitutes for a healthy diet and weight loss plan. On the contrary, mesotherapy is intended to aid a healthy diet plan and help remove fat pockets that diet and exercise alone may not remedy. An ideal candidate is within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight. Being as fit as possible before undergoing the procedure will maximize the end results.During your treatment, the desired area will be injected and the process will take between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area. After treatment, side effects are minimal. In rare cases, small nodules may form in the injection areas. These aren't harmful and should disappear in a matter of weeks. OptiLipo doesn't involve surgery or anesthesia.Although an effective treatment for many, mesotherapy isn't an ideal treatment option for everyone. Diabetics, people on blood thinners, those with hypertension or heart problems, or any debilitating condition, should not undergo this treatment.

4 Must Know Tips Before A Cosmetic Procedure

Here are some general tips before a cosmetic procedure. It is important to follow these guidelines prior to undergoing a cosmetic procedure and choosing the physician who will provide it:

  1. Choose a physician with extensive experience doing a variety of aesthetic treatments such as Botox and filler injections and laser skin resurfacing, so he or she can recommend the one that's best for you. Dr. Ourian has more than ten years of cosmetic dermatology experience and treated thousands of patients. This is Dr. Ourian's passion and his goal for every patient is to help them achieve their aesthetic goals.
  2. Don't ask your doctor for a specific treatment. Rather, explain what issues you'd like to address and let your doctor offer the solutions. It is important to remember that what you should expect from a physician is not only their physical skill in administering a treatment but their judgment and discernment. You know how you want to look; allow the physician to determine the safest and most effective way to achieve that goal.
  3. Regulations vary from state to state, so ask your doctor who will be administering your treatment, and if that person permitted to do so under your state's laws. At Epione, Dr. Ourian personally administers all Botox and filler treatments. We have no nurse-injectors. And only Dr. Ourian offers and administers the Coolaser and Coolbeam treatments.
  4. Have realistic expectations. While aesthetic treatments can be beneficial, no reputable physician can guarantee results. We are committed to 100% patient satisfaction. To that end, we offer unlimited FREE follow-up appointments. If a patient is unhappy with the cosmetic results of their treatment we do all we can in a safe manner to make them not just a happy client but a dazzled one.

Four Tips for an Incredibly White Smile this Summer!

What is more sexy than a pearly white smile? Here are some tips to make sure your smile stays dazzling.

  • Avoid staining drinks like coffee, tea, and soda. If you absolutely need your caffeine fix in the morning, use a straw.
  • Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, or after eating staining foods, such as berries. Be careful not to overbrush though, as this may strip away the enamel and allow staining more easily.
  • Easy whitening options are available that you can do right at home. Brushing your teeth with baking soda or hydrogen peroxide (being careful not to swallow) will act as a whitening agent. Lemon juice mixed with a teaspoon of salt also has a whitening effect. While these techniques may not taste good, your smile will thank you.
  • A good diet will always prove beneficial. Make sure to get plenty of calcium, as it is vital for strong teeth. Crunchy foods that require lots of chewing—carrots, celery and apples—will help remove built-up plaque as you chew.
