Celebrity Acne Scar Treatment

What do Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears have in common with 85% of all teens? Acne! They bear the acne scars to prove it. Dr. Simon Ourian believes the Coolaser is the most effective available treatment to deal with this affliction.

May 04, 2009 — Doctor Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California treats acne and acne scars every day. His patients, both men and women, tell him how they suffered as teens with active acne and continue to suffer with the resulting scars. Doctor Ourian empathizes more than they might imagine because he too was prone to acne in his younger days. “I had acne as a teen,” says Doctor Ourian, “not as bad as some but enough to cause me great embarrassment. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I decided to practice as a cosmetic physician.”

“Flawless skin is a rather rare commodity,” continues Doctor Ourian, “you’d be surprised what many top actors, actresses and models have to go through to cover up their flaws. Some employ literally teams of people to do their makeup and ensure that they’re shot at the best angle and in only the most flattering light.”

“For some, such as Edward James Olmos, their acne scars are quite apparent. Brad Pitt is one of the best actors in Hollywood and one of the most famous people on the planet but it appears obvious to me that he was an acne sufferer. Just imagine how difficult it is for women such as Cameron Diaz, Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears. Like it or not, female celebrities are held to an almost impossible standard of beauty.”

Doctor Ourian gives a brief description of acne and its causes: “People who’ve never had acne may not know that its one of the most common skin diseases. Generally it develops in the teens but can continue for some into their 20’s and beyond. Acne results from the overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands that then mix with dead skin cells to clog the pores of the skin. These clogs are a breeding ground for bacteria which in turn may leak to neighboring tissue causing redness, swelling and bumps or pimples.”

Patients that suffered from acne are likely to have acne scars; for some these scars can be almost disfiguring. These scars may vary widely in type, color and shape. Doctor Ourian utilizes the Coolaser as part of an individualized treatment protocol designed for each of his patients. “With the Coolaser,” explains Doctor Ourian, “I can literally scan down the surface of the skin so that the acne scars are less deep. I’ve worked hard over the years to develop the technology and technique that allows me the control necessary to remove only as much as needed, maintaining as much of the healthy skin as possible. Depending on the severity and depth of the acne scars I may inject a dermal filler such as Juvéderm, Radiesse or Restylane.”
According to Doctor Ourian, “The Coolaser is a very safe procedure and the discomfort is usually temporary and we prepare the patient’s skin with a topical anesthetic first. Most patients report that it feels like the snapping of a rubber band.”

“I have been helping patients with acne scars for more than ten years,” concludes Doctor Ourian, “and I believe the Coolaser achieves results superior to other laser or treatment modalities, especially when used in conjunction with a dermal filler.”
